Winged kingfisher

This kingfisher now has wings. They can't do anything that radical just yet, but I'm working on it! :)
Must move on to making the actual puppets soon...

Paper feathers

Another kingfisher I made out of light clay and paper. I wish I'd remembered to take photos when it was still just a wire armature. This is a test piece, so the only moving parts are the feet.

I did things

Finally got round to sculpting the kingfisher -

Also did some colour tests for the fairy...

And made lots more leaves, with my sister's help :P

A squid's nose

Turned this guy into a doll today. He reminds me of Squidward.

And now back to work!

Bristol encounters

Went to Bristol for a few days to attend the Encounters Festival. Saw so many inspiring animations, and came away with a few ideas. Particularly enjoyed Playing Ghost (by Bianca Ansems), and The Maker (by Christopher Kezelos).

Also did a few drawings while I was there - mostly of strangers, but some are of Richard lazing around in the hotel (a frequent sight) :P

And then we drew random things for fun. Richard helpfully outlined all of these in black for me, but only after he made me outline all of his drawings (which he may put up online, eventually)... :L

Then came the main characters from Gundam Wing: Trowa Barton/ Duo Maxell/ Heero Yuy/ Quatre Raberba Winner/ Wufei Chang. I don't really like Wufei.

It was a good trip! :D

Blu-tack on an iPhone

Some blu-tack creations that were made in a Starbucks a few months ago (I rediscovered the photos tonight). Those that are labelled C are done by me, and the ones with Rs are made by my boyfriend :P

Naked

Finished the model of the fairy today - I find hair quite hard to sculpt, but this attempt was less horrific than I'd anticipated... Click the image to full view.

No paper cuts so far

Made lots of origami leaves yesterday - about 170 I think? Gonna make some bushes and trees out of them, so I'll need loads more!

Final design

Oh yeah - I think this is the design I'm going to use in my film... I haven't drawn what it looks like from behind, but there's supposed to be some petals in the shape of a bow there.

Making stuff

Playing with plasticine, wire, and clay...

1st attempt to make the character. See those nub legs?!

2nd attempt (work in progress) - now standing! Legs are less nubby, and closer to the actual design. Left the hair for now until the clay base dries...

Temporary plasticine work area...

Designs

Thought I'd also post some clothing/hair designs I did for my character. Most of the clothes are inspired by fuchsias - there are so many species of this flower, and they all look like they could be tiny dresses. Haven't finalised anything yet - I'm trying to find a balance between aesthetics and practicality.

New animatic

I'm a terrible blogger. How many months has it been? SINCE JUNE?!?
Ahaha... well, since my last post I have become an MA animation student - still at the Edinburgh College of Art/ Edinburgh University (the two institutes merged in August).
Thus, I've been working on my film -

This is the latest animatic...
Currently working on character designs, and recreating them in plasticine :P
